Biography

Brian Andrews knows what it means to build a life through hard work.
Originally from Ireland, Brian came to British Columbia and worked in a variety of roles that have carried him through to where he is today: Construction electrician in hospitals, mines, and the oil and gas sector; Electrician in the film industry; Forager and processor of wild foods in remote corners of this province; Postal worker – at the heart of a city, connecting its people.
It is an unconventional path. But every one of those environments shaped him in ways that matter: how to endure and adapt, how to show up and work hard no matter the task, how to build community within a workplace and how to understand what makes a team, and a community, truly thrive.
Eight years ago, Brian and his partner, Lara, chose Kamloops, and they have not looked back since. For the first time in their adult lives, they both had good work and a real community around them. In 2022, Brian became a Canadian citizen right here in Kamloops – one of the proudest days of his life. The following year, he and his partner bought their first home together. Kamloops is not just where they live. It is where they belong, and where they are committed to staying.
That sense of belonging is exactly what drives him to run for City Council. Because when you genuinely care about a place and the people in it, you don’t sit on the sidelines when things are not working – you step up.
Brian currently serves as a union representative and elected board member with IBEW Local 993, and as Second Vice President of the Kamloops & District Labour Council. For years, he has shown up for working people – listening, advocating, and pushing for what is fair. He is not afraid to stand up, and stand out for what is right – and that is not about a title – it is just who he is.
A Red Seal Master Electrician, a labour movement advocate, and a proud Kamloops resident, Brian believes this city deserves a councillor who listens deeply, works collaboratively, and gets things done. He wants to work with this city’s teams and its people, to build a Kamloops that every resident is proud to call home.
