By the end of my four-year term, Kamloops would have a process to dismiss any councilor or mayor who failed to uphold their office's responsibilities. Also, any city-sponsored organization would be held responsible for the funds it received and for fully carrying out its contract terms. For example, a business association would need to represent all the businesses within its mandate, and any materials or publications it distributed would need to be scrutinized for clear, unbiased information. City-sponsored organizations can not be used to subsidize small interest groups. One of the most important results that must be completed by the end of the next four-year term is a plan to build Kamloops that accounts for the massive infrastructure upkeep and repair bill that will fiscally bankrupt our city. Kamloops has higher infrastructure costs because of our unique landscape of rivers and mountains. Development has been allowed to grow without factoring in long-range upkeep costs, and this has created an untenable deficit. City Council needs to implement a new building and growth plan for Kamloops that incorporates the long-term costs of neighborhoods and eliminates subsidies for big-business developers. Kamloops does not have the capacity to provide welfare to multi-million-dollar developers. By the end of a four-year term, working people will have avenues to profit from their properties and will no longer need to subsidize business.
